Doesn't 'rm -rf .wine' remove all registry entries, saved game progress, my place in rosetta stone, everything I have saved so far? Why on earth would I want to do that? Theres six months of information in there. If I do rm -rf .wine I loose my whole c: drive! There has to be a better way! Everytime something goes wrong the answer is rm -rf .wine and thats a big ask.

So back up your ~/.wine when it's in a state you are happy with. If something goes wrong then you can restore it. Alternatively you can use a different wineprefix per application to keep things isolated.
