I'm trying to install Ubuntu on a HP ze1115 notebook that recently had XP disintegrate. I have burned the .iso image to the boot CD, and get the welcome screen when I boot from CD. When I choose install from CD, it begins loading the kernel. When it gets all the way to 100%, it stops and I get an I/O Error that says it can not read from CD and then has a reboot button. I've tried to burn this several times and get the same result every time.

This is my first linux install. I have seen some posts about certain CD drives not working, is it possible this is the case? I can't find out what CD drive I have because I can't get to a dos prompt or diagnostic screen, but I assume it is standard.

Any help?

Have you tried the Alternate CD?

Ok, I'm sorry. But I am a noob. I have a lot of computer experience, but don't do much with code.

Where does all that information go before I start the install?

I just started downloading the alternate CD. I'll burn that image and give that a shot tonight. Anything I need to know about that installer vs. the live installer?
