Replacement material for headset Ear Cushions?

The ear cushions (soft sponge pads) on my Plantronics DSP-300 headset have disintegrated.

I have contacted the local Plantronics distributor and gave them the part number I need. They said they would get back to me and I'm hoping they do carry stock of the item I require.

What ideas do you have of material that I can use in the interim? I was thinking something like woolly sock material.

Any other ideas?
