check for yourself here! (http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop-inspiron-9?c=us&cs=19&l=en&ref=hmpgwn1&s=dhs)

there it is folks. Dell is know doing, essentially, exactly what a lot of the community has been asking for.

+1 for them.

next question: can people that already pre-ordered get the price difference back??

EDIT: Can a mod please change the of the thread to read:

Dell Now Selling Ubuntu Mini 9's with Identical Hardware ~CHEAPER~ than Windows Versions

the 'identical hardware' part is what is significant about this, and i totally forgot to include it in thread title lol....

EDIT 2: Please look closely at the gigantic red circles and arrows in the attachment before you say the hardware isn't identical :)

Uh i am the only one who sees the hardware is not identical at all?

If you actually read it you will even see dell says this
"More memory and Storage! Includes Windows XP"

Apart from the obvious fact the ram and hardrive are smaller on the linux box.

So no they are not identical.

After looking more closely it is actually cheaper, the layout confused me a bit.
Look at the one to the furthest right:
Windows XP is: $449
Ubuntu is: $409

That layout is really confusing. Took me about 3 Minutes to figure it out. They should just rename the top button to "Build yours with Windows for ...".

hopefully, they are just testing waters here in the states prior to implementing it worldwide... ive been watching their US site pretty close, and small changes for the better have been happening pretty frequently.... the display model picture got changed to have the default Dell Ubuntu desktop, for example :)

Terrible page design.

But good news for Ubuntu (and Linux at large). :)

I'm sorry to say so, but your English is terrible. Please try to write at least full sentences (if not 'words'), so people who are not fluent in English can at least have a chance in understanding what you want to say.
