Where the goal was to be a computer geek and you had skills like scripting, programming, administration and deployment, and then had stats like math, physics, logic, and attributes like hat colour (black/white, also can be red if you're a member of a particular guild - or "distro"), and parental proximity...


... would you really be allowed to call it a "role-playing" game?

Sounds like a mix of Cyberpunk and Hacker (though Hacker wasn't a role-playing game).

Reminds me of a cartoon in Dragon magazine where a few dragons (or ogre's?) were sitting around a table and one was saying "you are a suburban housewife ...."
