I'm trying to do a modified Kubuntu version to write LaTeX live. Do I need to modify all Kubuntu artwork in order to make clear this is not a official Ubuntu release if I want to distribute it? If this is the case, are there precise directives on which files I should modify?

Its open source, but the name and logo are trademarked. There is a precise policy if you want to keep *buntu in the name that I don't respect (too many changes) so I have to rename it. Fine. My question is: once I rename it and I make it clear that is not an official Ubuntu, do I have to remove all artwork related to Ubuntu? Or part of it? Is there a list of what I must modify?

I think You should contact the ubuntu-art (https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-art/) mailing list, you are more likely to get a proper answer there.
