hello!
i clicked the upgrade to 8.04 from 7.10 on a whim and when it finished and rebooted, i am no longer able to get to my desktop via the GUI. to be specific, i get to the gui login prompt, enter my un/pwd, then it validates and just displays a blank background, with the wrong resolution.
i can get to a command promp, and can get to an emergency desktop using the "safe" gnome login but its all the wrong resolution,HAL not enabled etc... i tried dpkg-reconfigure xserver.xorg but it returned an error. in redhat i'd use system-config-display but i'm not sure what the equiv is with ubuntu.
i have an ati 9200se card and didn't load any special drivers for it, just whatever came with ubuntu 7.10.
what steps do i need to troubleshoot this please?
thanks,
tastybrains
