I am a long-time Ubuntu and open-source user and have recently become interested in starting a non-profit group to promote the use of open source software in our schools and government along with teaching open source to our children in schools.

I have been unable to find any other similar non profits, and am curious whether any exist and whether any could speculate on whether there is money available for such a group?

Any insight or speculation?

Thanks!

Well, for starters, there IS the Free Software Foundation (http://www.fsf.org) that rms started a long time ago.

I can think of three:
Free Software Foundation
Software in the Public Interest
Mozilla Foundation (abet not focused on Linux, and focused on the web)

There is always room for more though. :)
