Bloody hell, this is so infuriating.
Now, 4 install discs later, Ubuntu and Xubuntu (my machine has 386mb of RAM), I still cannot get past "Configuring APT Sources", it just sits there and sits there.
Alas I've searched for a solution and no one has one.
ANY ideas?

Try with alternate Cd and plug off your modem during installation.

Laptop, nothing is plugged in by power.
Tried both standard and alternate CDs, I can't get the standards to even boot.

what type of internet connection do you have? broadband I hope, if you are on a dialup modem you may as well go get a root canal done while you wait for the downloads to complete.
i saw one attempted install where the apt sources were pointed to the user pc instead of the internet repositories but this gave errors which indicated where the trouble was.
386 meg of ram? very unusual, This can make the download crawl along because the install is using up most of the available memory. (it has to page out memory and if the swap file is very small this will also slow down the install and download of the files in the sources.
if i think of anything else i will post again

Cable, and I know the connection is good, I'm able to get time services and such.
Haven't tried poitning the apt sources somewhere else though.
Also Xubuntu says it only needs like 192mb of RAM for install, should be more than enough.
Edit: I guess I should drop the new Ubuntu version and go back a version?
