Well not everything, but all the stuff that slows the system down. My Athlon XP 2800/512Mb system has run really badly since I installed Ubuntu 8.04 (I wish you were not trying to make it as bad as Windows). I dislike eye-candy so I disabled Compiz. I use 'find' to find things, so I set tracker not to index. But still, from time to time, the system slows and the mouse goes jerky, then it locks up completely. No other distro does this. I have an irrational impression that it has to do with Firefox3, flash and fuse-based filesystems (e.g truecrypt) - as that combo seems to provoke it - well sometimes. If I spot things going bad, and do 'ps-ef', then I find trackerd running amock. And if I 'kill -9' it, then the system returns to stability. Is there any good reason not to use synaptic to take the damn thing out?
