I'm new to Linux, very new. I really don't know anything other than it's way better than Windows!
Here's the problem I'm having, and if you're interested, read on and I'll tell you how I got in this mess:
As indicated in the Thread Title, I own a Dell Inspiron 1526 laptop on which I have installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 Hardy Heron. The sound works through the front headphone jack, but never through the onboard speakers. I need help getting the sound to come out of the speakers, and would ask that (if you can help) please explain every step in detail so I don't screw up my system.
I am dual-booting between Windows Vista and Ubuntu Linux. I created a 20GB partition, using Windows Disk Management Utility, on which I installed Ubuntu. This is my second install; the first time, while trying to get my sound to work, I somehow lost my wireless networking drivers, got frustrated and deleted the OS.
I'm back now to try this again. I hadn't tried the headphones before, so I'm glad to know that I have some sound; however, I would prefer not to have to have headphones plugged in to hear sound.
Thanks, in advance, for any and all help with this problem.
