I use VMWare at work and have checked out Parallels, but neither seems to do quite what I'm thinking about (although I could be wrong about that), so I'll ask here.

I have this computer I installed Ubuntu on. In this computer I have two hard drives, one of which has Windows, the other has Ubuntu. Is there a way to set things up so that I could launch Windows as a separate process from within Ubuntu, but using the Windows system already installed on the separate hard drive (as opposed to a HD image)?

Using Ubuntu 8.04.1 32-bit on Athlon64 w/ 3G RAM, nvidia 7800GS card

To answer your question - No, you cannot have two hard drives booted up at the same time in the same computer (that I know of).

What exactly are your needs that virtualization doesn't work? I use VMWare Server/Windows for the Windows based programs I can't live without and I don't have any problems at all with it.

Are you trying to run games or programs that require hardware support not available in a virtualized Windows environment?
