So I decided to take my XP laptop and switch to Ubuntu, I don't game on it, so I figured why stick around with Windows.

Alas, when I pop the Ubuntu CD in (I burned it to a DVD if that may be the case), it loads up the boot screen, I choose to install, and I get this:

[40.781350] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
[#] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
[#] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 1
[#] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0

It keeps repeating with new numbers and either logical block 0 or 1, can't figure out why.

I'm on a Sony Vaio laptop (PCG-632L), DVD Rom is on the docking station.

Any ideas? Worked fine in XP.

Try burning the .ISO again at a slower speed. I've had this trick work many times. Usually I burn them at about 8x.

Hope it works for you.

Grr stuck in "BusyBox", when I have Plug and Play in the BIOS on, I get an error about it, I turn it off, and the Ctrl+Alt+F1 screen prints "loading please wait" no errors.... awesome.

Downloading the alternative install CD, I'll try that next...

Got the alternative DVD running, however it cannot detect the DVD rom on my docking station, installation cannot continue, ugh!

"No Common CD-ROM drive was detected"

Edit:
Nevermind, reenabled plug and play, oops. ;) fixed.

Edit2:
I get an error "Cannot install base system".
The installer cannot figure out how to install the base system. No installable CD-ROM was found and no valid mirror was configured.

Ugh, it mounted the CD fine, what is it's problem!
