I just found this really great Firefox extension called Zotero: http://www.zotero.org/

It's basically a tool to manage your research on the net, that lets you save data from webpages (or the whole page as html), add notes, etc, etc. It seems rather comprehensive at first glance. The best thing is, that it works directly in your browser, so you don't have to switch back and forth between windows.

You can check the introduction video here: http://www.zotero.org/documentation/quick_start_guide

Yay! I only just downloaded it today, and I already love it.

Yes, it is awesome. It is by far the best reference manager I have used so far. It definitely beats reference manager and endnote and also bibus which I used before on Ubuntu.

I disagree. I find it better not to bloat firefox and use a standalone program to manage my bibliography (I like both Jabref and Bibus). Besides, Bibus' OOffice integration is much better than Zotero's, and Gnome-Do has a really handy Jabref plugin that indexes your bibliography quite neatly.

I think this is not a matter to agree or disagree but just a suggestion -and a useful one, depending on your needs. I also think Zotero (http://www.zotero.org/) is a very useful application (I think it's more than an extension:)), and I believe its users (me as well) find it so useful that can't help but suggest others to use it.

JabRef (http://jabref.sourceforge.net/) and Bibus (http://bibus-biblio.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) are also very helpful, particularly JabRef; and there is also Referencer (http://icculus.org/referencer/index.html) (which seems very promising as well) and Pybliographer (http://pybliographer.org/) as reference / bibliography managers. The goodness of Zotero -besides other things- however, is unmatched to me, when it comes to collect bibliographic info when searching those in internet (over the databases like JSTOR, Muse, even Amazon and Google books, etc)

So try Zotero, if you need a good reference manager and if it suits your needs. It is also portable (with portable Firefox, and when you define the database location on your key drive) see the screen casts on zotero homepage (http://www.zotero.org/): but again, it totally depends on your needs and habits.

besides, you could have a separate profile in Firefox to use with zotero, if you like (but personally I have been using it for quite a while now, and it did not spoil my Firefox yet:)

Hi,
There's an Ubuntu wiki page for Zotero with some additional tips and tricks.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Zotero
Please add to it! :p

I haven't updated it at all for Intrepid - I've been waiting for the new version of Zotero (and of the OpenOffice.org Zotero plugin) to be released, since there are new features to be documented.

Very very nice wiki page, thanks indeed:) The new version of Zotero will surely add quite a few to your wiki page -one tip: formattable notes:) and online data server (bad maths:D)
