I am an Ubuntu newbie and when I updated my Ubuntu version to 5.10 the dual booting menu choice previously available is gone. Now my boot menu contains the choice of the old kernel and the new kernel, and my windows xp choice is gone.

This happened to me once before, but I was able to repair the boot menu via the the system administration menu option. I think I need to do something with grub, but I do not have the expertise to figure it out. Anyone care to help me?

Please don't tell me I should just forget the windows partion - my kids will kill me.

that tells you how to restore grub. It will probably work, since your grub is messed up it will restore it to normal :P
