Hi can you guys recommend a nice motherboard that can be paired with this...

That would be properly compatible with linux?

Well I know typically Asus motherboards have a good track record with linux, I also hear that gigabyte and intel motherboards do fairly well too.
Avoid foxconn.

just be sure that when you have picked a motherboard, google it with like "<motherboard here>, linux, and if you see a lot of posts with like "my motherboar doesnt work with linux D: " then you might want to get a different one =P

I recently built a system with the Asus P5QC board with great results. You can read my review here...

A glance seems to indicate that will work with the processor you have selected, but be sure to check the specs carefully.

Since the Q6600 he is using and the E8500 you used use the same socket, the Q6600 will work in that motherboard.
