Hi, I am a Kubuntu Hardy Heron amd64 user. I need to do a clean install this weekend.

As Intrepid Ibex is coming out this month, would you recommend Hardy Heron 8.04.1 with KDE 4 (and then upgrade to stable 8.10 when available) or Intrepid Ibex beta?

As for the hardware, this is what I've got:
- AMD Athlon X2
- Chipset NVidia (sound, video, ethernet onboard)

Many Thanks

Depends on how much you need a working computer, beta software might work great for you and it might not.

Only you can make the decision as to whether you can risk spending time fixing potential issues from Beta software.

Me ? I'd probably install stable, make a disk image, then be confident screwing around with Intrepid and if it goes badly, simply reimage.
