Hi guys, I don't know why but few days ago Ubuntu couldn't recognize my screen anymore so I had to edit my xorg.conf file to add the correct resolution and refresh rate.

My problem is that I cannot get the proper refresh rate for my screen resolution. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 730B running at 1280x1024 @75 Hz.

I want a refresh rate of 75 Hz but I can only get to 51 Hz so far. I don't know what I did wrong but if go to a resolution of like 1024x768 I can get 59 Hz, if I choose a resolution of 640x512 I can get to 72 Hz and so on. So if anyone know how to fix this so I can run my screen at 1280x1024 @75 Hz I would be happy.

here's my xorg.conf

# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by failsafeDexconf, using
# values from the debconf database and some overrides to use vesa mode.
#
# You should use dexconf or another such tool for creating a "real" xorg.conf
# For example:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Yeah, same here. It shows up as an extremely low refresh rate - 51. This can't be true as a refresh rate this low would cause your screen to appear to flicker. (it's always flickering, but it'd be more noticeable at 51)

One thing I did notice, however, is that if you open up your nVidia X-server and look at your settings there they appear to be correct.

Through Gnome, my settings show up as 1280x1024 @ 51hz; but in nVidia x-server they say 1280x1024 @ 85hz.

This has got to be a bug. Or something that i'm missing entirely.

Help, anyone?

If you are using an LCD monitor (flat screen), refresh rate doesn't really do much. More information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refresh_rate#Liquid_crystal_displays
