8.04.1 Boot issues

I've just tried to install ubuntu 8.04.1 on my Sony VAIO laptop. After choosing install the system hangs with an error:

acpi: ec: read timeout command =128

This happens only when the AC power is connected.

How come?

Any help to get this fixed will be cool

There is an option for Check CD for defects. Run the utility and see if any error comes.

It happens on reboot after the system has been installed as well.

(I also tried another CD, it did the same)
