ubuntu and Windows

I am trying to install ubuntu onto my computer but everytime I do instead of adding it to the HD it requires me to delete my Windows Partition first and I am not wanting to do that.

I prefer to use a disk instead of install to practice Linux as I am still more into Windows and not prepared to totally give up Windows quite yet.

Can someone help me?

I'm not sure what you're asking, Ubuntu would not ask you to delete the Windows partition, unless your doing the guided partition, you need to do the manual partition, are you using the LiveCD?

I just downloaded the ISO from the ubuntu site and then made a burn disk out of it

If you just want to experiment with Ubuntu, run from the LiveCD; if you want to install it, you will have to make room on the hard drive for it.

if there is no space left on the drive then it will want to erase what is there... th install disk is the live cd.

also it would be possible to install it on a different drive if you have a second hard drive. i have dual booted it with osx leopard, and in the past with both xp pro and vista.

i did do a simple how to at one point, but it has been a while... and was 7.10

don't know if this will help, and it was a running reinstall process, but it hits a few points that i have seen to be true, in the end.

i now have the same computer that was in that thread tri booting xp pro, vista home prem, and a modified version of vista. this was tricky in that i had to go back and edit vista's bootloader to see 2 of them, it only wanted to see the last one that i loaded.
