View Full Version : Cheap headphones...

I use a pair of cheap ear buds from my iPod (equally cheap, by the way) to listen to music on my computer. They have been driving me crazy lately because of a horrible hissing static that fills the buds whenever they're plugged all the way in.

In a search for new headphones, I located a pair from the airlines, complete with a bright blue US Airways logo on the side. They don't have the static problem, and the sound quality is surprisingly good. Unfortunately, they also have a rather short cable.

So I tried another pair (an older set from Delta). These have a good cable and even better quality, but the headset itself was clearly designed for a five-year-old, it's so small. I have to loop the bridge between the earphones around the back of my head instead of over the top.

Which one should I use?

Whatever one you want ;)

How can we tell what is the least troublesome?

If I knew what I wanted, I wouldn't be asking for opinions ;)

iPod headphones are terrible, and those US Air headphones could be dangerous to your comp if you jerk your had back allofasudden for some reason.

I'm giving the Delta set a try right now. I must look insane with the headphones on around my neck, but it's pretty comfortable.

I have a set of Senheiser 414's that I have had for over 20 years. Best stereo headphones ever made and they are "open air" meaning that if the doorbell rings, I can hear it, if the dog barks and wants to go out, I can hear it. Of course, such will not come cheap, even on eBay.

Your problem with the iPod earbuds is that those things are engineered to fail after so many miles so that Apple can make bucks on the replacements.

IF you need small light weights, a set of Sony's at any stereo shop should get it for you. Or maybe a set of Koss HP-1's?. Neither will break the bank, and for most will work just fine. You aren't requiring sound isolation for mix down and having to resort to a set of David Clark cups with inserts. You are just listening to music or that sound track.
