I have just done a fresh reinstall of Kubuntu 8.04. Sound worked fine to start with and have installed restricted etras without a problem. However, having now installed proprietary ATI graphics drivers, all sound has vanished.

The soundcard is still recognised - see below:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC883 Analog [ALC883 Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 1: ALC883 Digital [ALC883 Digital]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: ATI HDMI [ATI HDMI]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I don't want to have to do a fresh reinstall again - any ideas??

Sounds silly but it has happened to me:

check Kmix to see if there aren't any mixers muted

You know, I was going to say I had already done that, but decided that I would just put ALL the sliders up to max, regardless of whether I have surround sound or not, and guess what, the sound has returned!
Thanks for your help.
