Ok so the ubuntu demo CD worked fine but after i got it installed my internet magically disappeared. Does this make any sense? Also, the help menu for checking your network settings is terrible and offers no solutions. Also now I cant boot up on my windows drive as the ubuntu install seems to have totally raped my other drives so I can't look at the internet settings there or see if the internet still works on windows. The light in the ethernet connection is blinking and the cable modem has all the lights on and seems to be working fine. I can't ping anything or change this loopback option in the network settings. Any help would be appreciated. I've already worked through numerous issues with this install which I find amusing since the demo CD worked so well.
