I recently bought a Linux compliation DVD with a couple different distributions and wanted to try out Ubuntu and have it dual boot with Windows XP.

I am able to boot from the DVD and start up Ubuntu's LiveCD/Install, and it seems to be working every time except that once the loading bar is full my monitor goes black, then colored lines appear and a floating message box appears that says:

"Not Optimum Mode - Recommended Mode 60 Hz 1280 x 1024"

I have tried several times to change the Settings via the Control Panel in XP to what it says above and rebooting, but to no avail.

Here's my computer specs:
System: Dell 8400
Current OS: Windows XP
Processor: Pentium 4, 3.2 GHZ speed
Memory: 1 GB
Graphics Card: NVidia GeForce 6800
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 712N

I saw similar problems like this on the web in general with my monitor and it's close siblings, but none seemed to be directly relevant to Linux installation. ](*,)

I'm a first time user, so any advice in detail is greatly appreciated. Thank you! :D
