Rules:

1. Forum guidelines on content apply. In other words, safe for kids and safe for work.
2. Try not to quote embedded images; take a moment to snip them out.
3. Off-topic posts will be edited or moved.
4. Thumbnail your image, or use the forum's attachment system. Full-size embedded images are annoying and will be snipped mercilessly.
5. Take a moment and tell everyone the details of your desktop, such as the theme name, the wallpaper name, the icons and any programs you're using in the image.

Enjoy!

It looks to me like he's using Tint, which is a different panel app. You could easily kill xfce-panel and use tint instead, but you'd also have to use a stand-alone systray app, as tint doesn't have one.

I totally missed out on last month's thread so I wanted to make sure I got a post on this month's thread. Info's in the terminal.
Apps in the first screen are AWN Terminal and Totem (my VLC decided it wanted to bork this morning), and the apps in the other screen are Nautilus, GNOME Do and Google Gadget Sidebar. The desktop globe is Compiz with Cube Atlantis, but I'm not sure why my skydome isn't showing up or my gradient isn't working.

I do have a screenshot showing my Firefox theme, but I didn't want to post a fifth screenshot. I'll post it if anyone wants to see it. With the exception of the fourth wallpaper, which I made from a pic I found on StumbleUpon, all wallpapers are custom images I made from images I found. (The girl on desktop 3 is a camgirl I use to talk to, but last time I checked she's not doing her cam anymore.)

I love it. The only thing that annoys me about it is the button it sticks at the left of the ticker. You can't remove it. However, by adding transparency using Compiz, it's more bearable.

For the clock, open gconf-editor, >> apps >> panel >> applets >> applet n (the one that says Gnome:Clock) >> prefs >> edit custom_format and place "<span color="#F37800">%A, %d %B</span> %H:%M %Z" you can change the colour and format of course. :popcorn:

GTK theme: a modified version of Caramello, made to have dark menus (I still find the hybrid look very fashionable);
Metacity theme: K03, the borderless version, with the background color changed to #2b2b2b;
Icons: Eikon2, as usual;
Fonts: Lucida Sans 7,1pt, except for the windows titles, where I use LucidaMacBold, 7pt;
Wallpaper: one of the many proposals for the Intrepid Ibex release. I got it somewhere here in the forums, but the picture's name is apparently "Red Ibex". If that isn't any help, I can upload it again here in the topic.

And one of my favourite Portuguese bands playing, to help to the peaceful mood. Rádio Macau FTW.

...desktop (well, ibex is not exactly a RAM, I suppose). I made a modified theme on the basis of a couple of the default themes and named it Bronzie, then I modified my earlier plain ibex background to match it. My daughter helped me, she uses the GIMP very skilfully. Here's the background (still has some rough edges):

I edited this 28 Weeks Later movie poster and I really like how it looks. However, I have no ideas on where to start with the rest of this theme. A good icon theme is one of my main problems. I would like something that would either match the red or the light gray. Does anyone have any suggestions on gtk or icon themes?

Been playing around a lot with NNM-BB-GTK window border..

I never really liked having the title show up.. I know what program I'm using. Never really liked the panel either.. So I killed that.

I've been using HandleGotD font for a LONG time.. Got rid of that.

Modified MurrineWTB, Modifed NNM-BB-GTK xfwm border

this is the result.

Since this is october, I decided to go with an almost-creepy looking theme. The GTK+ is BlackFate and my emerald theme is a *very* slightly modified OverGloss (White shadow.).

The wallpaper is something I go off of WallpaperAbyss, a very great website for a lot of good free wallpaper.

Its working just fine on my desktop except for couple of things.

1) I'm can't get the mpd play/pause/stop button to show up. It keeps on saying no mpd.awk script found, but the script is there with the other scripts.

2) Unable to get the transparency working in the CompizSettings.

The direction sometimes doesn't work. Don't worry. Make the mpd script executaxle (chmod +x). Not sure about compiz. That is what I have. Make sure the conky is a widget layer (in the .conkyrc)

thx.

I had changed the own_window_type to override. Changing it back to widget solved the problem.

On the other hand, I made the mpd script executable but no go there. I think maybe because I've to start mpd with sudo it requires root privileges?

I tried switching the mpd installation locally and still no difference. I think the problem is with the mpd.awk file rather than mpd cuz even if I double click on it it comes up with an error saying
Failed to execute child process "/home/cd-r/.scripts/mpd.awk" (No such file or directory). I've to open it via right clicking on it. I'll try looking around a bit more :(

Direction option seems not to be working.

Any issues ask on the conkyForecast thread...

Make sure you use the latest version of the script, the one available for download in the Arch linux forum is well out of date...

Also it is a common misconception that the wind direction arrows point the wrong way. However if the wind direction was NW for example the arrow shouldn't point NW, it should point SE on purpose. The wind is north westerly so comes from that direction, and heads south easterly...

As far as I am aware nothing is broken with the script...

...And the awesome Conky config everybody is talking about, with some personal tweaks to make it fit on my tiny 1280x800 pixels desktop:

http://xs132.xs.to/xs132/08400/ecra425.png.xs.jpg (http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs132&d=08400&f=ecra425.png) http://xs232.xs.to/xs232/08400/ecra2520.png.xs.jpg (http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs232&d=08400&f=ecra2520.png)

can you post the script you use to launch all the seperate conkys i would like 2 of them not all and would be really cool if i can go by your config and go from there.

Sure!

#!/bin/bash
conky -c ~/.conky/Mira_multi/.conkyrc_clock &
conky -c ~/.conky/Mira_multi/.conkyrc_weather &
conky -c ~/.conky/Mira_multi/.conkyrc_sys &
conky -c ~/.conky/Mira_multi/.conkyrc_net &
conky -c ~/.conky/Mira_multi/.conkyrc_disk &
conky -c ~/.conky/Mira_multi/.conkyrc_mpd

You'll just have to comment out the conky files you don't want to run.

install the -dev files it should work then

Thanks again, and with another question:

The latest Murrine Engine in Kenneth Wimer Launchpad repos will not install, and I am stuck with the package the wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Intrepid... Dust page gives. Apt complains that the package libxcb-render-util0 is not installable. Any suggestions?

My October desktop will be ready soon. As I said previously, I need to start over.

Here's mine, first contribution.

GTK/Metacity theme = Dust with slightly customized colours.
Icons = Classic Black-White Theme.
Background = Customized Aurora.
Font = Segoe UI.

BEAUTIFUL SCREENSHOT!!!!
Where did you get your background from?

Also, many people (including the quoted screenshot) seem to use some shiny background image for their panels. Where is that from?

I have two of note right now.

http://xs231.xs.to/xs231/08401/screenshot-2008-09-30-082516-174.jpg.xs.jpg (http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs231&d=08401&f=screenshot-2008-09-30-082516-174.jpg) http://xs232.xs.to/xs232/08400/screenshot-1161-41j-2008-10-06-095441-706.jpg.xs.jpg (http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs232&d=08400&f=screenshot-1161-41j-2008-10-06-095441-706.jpg)

On the left is IceWM-lite running in Ubuntu 8.04 with strictly GTK1.2 applications; it's the basis for that somewhat-ridiculous Ubuntu GTK1.2 Remix I made. My current desktop looks almost identical to that ... which is kind of why the ... oh, never mind.

On the right a return to 2000 or so, with a pretend Windows desktop. The full IceWM setup on that one, plus Xfe, a GTK1.2 version of Firefox 2, and again, nothing GTK2. (Oh, I have SCIM installed, which is GTK2, but that's kind of necessary, so I don't really count it ... ).

Things move amazingly faster when you fall all the way back to GTK1.2 ...

It's an extension for Firefox called Stylish.

I figured it was a Firefox extension involving CSS. I was wondering if he/she could share the CSS they are using for it.

Yep, Stylish extension. The one I use is here: http://userstyles.org/styles/6689. Can find a dark image replacement on the site as well :)

Wow, I never found any triple screen setups here, Here is mine: http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~johndoe/otherstuff/coolwallpaper-1.jpg I'm just using the default ubuntu scheme, it's not bad at all. No effects, as the graphics cards I have barely work as it is.

Conky is still a work in progress...

Using Compiz on an Intel 945GM chipset, works great.

The world's loneliest tree

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbre_du_T%C3%A9n%C3%A9r%C3%A9

L'Arbre du Ténéré, known in English as the Tree of Ténéré, was a solitary acacia, of either Acacia raddiana or Acacia tortilis, that was once considered the most isolated tree on Earth — the only one within more than 400 kilometres (250 mi).

I would say that tree is doing pretty well socially :popcorn:
