Ubuntu is the only OS that I have got installed on my PC. I want to install my XP as well, as I am new to Linux environment. I have tried to install XP with boot CD, as well as from normal disc while Linux is working. None of these work and I don't know what the reason is. Boot CD is not being recognised at all, and other installation freezes at the start of the process. Do you have any idea what causes that problem??

nothing should be freezing . . .. youi might have a bad cd

but when you do install XP it will wipe out the MBR and replace it with it's own

DONT FREAK OUT

all you have to do is take the Ubuntu Live cd, and kinda reinstall linux . . .

live cd, install . . . but dont make a new partition. select your current XP and Linux Partion to be used DONT NOT SELCET THEM TO BE FORMATED...

this will reinstall the ubuntu Kernal, with grub, and you wont lose your files

i couldn't find the thread i got this from . . . it was a good one with pics and everything

but thats how i did it

You need to make space for Windows. That means if you have ubuntu on all your HDD you have to shrink Ubuntu. You can do it with Gparted live CD. (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php) When you shrink Ubuntu you can leave unallocated space and on that space install Windows.Of course you will need boot Windows CD.After you install Windows you will probably want to reinstall grub. You can follow this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=224351&highlight=reinstall+grub) guide.

I have done all of the steps, as You have suggested, but still windows does not want to install. For sure it is a problem with Disc I have got.
Thanks anyway

torrent an XP cd and burn it yourself

http://btjunkie.org/search?q=windows+XP

use a client like Utorrent to download it

http://utorrent.com/

use something like nero to burn the ISO and install windows

depending on the format of the disk image you may need something like Power ISO to burn it

http://btjunkie.org/search?q=power+iso

when you DL windows xp be sure it includes a cd key, or that it's modded to not need one
