Ran into this article this morning and found it interesting....

This time around we decided to go with the Ubuntu (Linux) OS over Windows Vista Basic (or Windows XP). One reason is that Ubuntu is free, saving you roughly $85 over Vista Basic or Win XP. Second, Ubuntu is based on Linux; so it's a highly stable OS that can fend off viruses and spyware better than Windows.

Hm. Can you fit that motherboard with a Core 2 Duo? If so, I may consider this box for my next desktop PC.

If you can put in a cheap graphics card and a blu ray drive this might make a very functional media pc.

thats cool, any availability in Europe? I wonder if build it yourself kits (with a free ubuntu cd :D) would be good for developing countries?

My home desktop was a Dell Scratch & Dent (though I didn't find any scratches or dents)

Integrated everything
AMD X2 2.4ghz
1gb ram
160gb HD
Vista Basic
$203 shipped.

Still leaves $50 to pick up a semi decent video card.

I've always been trying to build a media center PC for around $200. I figure, if TiVo can do it, why can't I?

Despite the appearance of a slot on the back of the system, the board in the system lacks an expansion card slot. You're stuck with onboard video and expansion via usb devices only.

For $30 more you can go with an option that uses an AMD processor:
