Hi,

I have created the Ubuntu 8.04 installation CD from the downloaded ISO file and tried to install it. Unfortunately, the installation stops because there is a problem with user authentication.
I tried to launch Ubuntu from the live CD and I get the "username" and "password" screen.

Is this normal? If so, what are the username and password?

Thanks a lot.

No it's not normal and quite often is indicative a dodgy burn or bad download.

Did you check that the download you burnt your livecd was good to start with - did you check the md5sum for it, if you didn't then do so, info https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM#MD5SUM on Windows

If the download is good, when you burnt it did you use a cdr and not a cdrw and did you burn it ata slow speed - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

Thanks for the quick answer.

I actually used a CDRW... Any problem with that?

I've had problems using cdrw's in the past although others haven't.

Did you check the md5sum and burn it at a slow speed.

Md5sum was fine.
Will burn it on a CD-R at low speed and try again.
Thanks.
