I'm new to ubuntu and decided to try it out on an old computer I have. I couldn't use the live cd because I only have 512 mb of RAM, so I downloaded the alternate text based installer, but I hace no idea how to install ubuntu from it. It boots fine, I just don't know what I'm supposed to do when it boots.

512 MB is not a problem for the live CD. About a year ago, I've installed Gutsy Gibbon on a P3 with 384 MB of RAM. What's more important is checking the CD for errors.
