Hi all,

I am eager to give Ubuntu a shot, I work in IT and have used Linux before.

So I fire up Ubuntu, click install select the country, lang etc etc
then I get to the Partition manager (scanning disk)
It'll get to 46% then reboot the machine.

What I have tried:
Compatibility mode
Different SATA/IDE drives
Different Ubuntu disk

I'll boot the live mode and I have tried to install from there, but alas the same issue occurs.

Any insight or something blatant I am missing?

Thanks for any help.

8.04 is the most stable release. not sure what the problem may be. are you using more than one monitor? i know, grasping at straws.

Right, I'll download a stable version and see how it goes.

I'll be back..

I am using two monitors but figured the same so have since tried just one moniter via VGA and DVI.
:( I am doomed to Microsoft exploiter.

other than the quad cpu setup, i don't see a reason why ubuntu won't work. just not sure about the quad cpu. you might consider another linux distro, to see if the same thing happens. try mandriva one spring 2008. it also has a live cd.
and this has nothing to do with your present problem, but grab sp3 for your windows install.

kubuntu is still ubuntu under the skin. that's why i suggested something other than ubuntu.

Strangely enough it didn't work! (only kidding)

But this is strange, I wrote the image to a DVD and this worked!??

STttttttttrange.. so far so good though.
Thanks for the help.
