Can you compile your own kernel when you use debootstrap?

*I've used debootstrap before and ran into problems, namely with X. I get errors saying that X can't start because certain fonts don't exist.

While making my changes to the "new system" is it necessary to bind mount /dev /sys and /proc to it?

*I always debootstrap to a separate partition and then chroot into it to make my changes.

Another question with debootstrap:
I'd like to have debootstrap install /, /boot, /home, /usr, /var, and /tmp in different partitions. How would I go about doing this?

BUMP!
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, it's been a while, but bump!

Surely their are developers on this forum. #Ubuntu on IRC fails and #Debian kicks me out when they find out that I use Ubuntu.
