Hello,

I need about 1000 .mp3's for some software I've written. I just need a bunch of random songs, and I don't really care what they sound like.

Do any of you know of any website or something where I can download a bunch of songs in bulk. (must all be .mp3's) I've been at sites like Acidplanet, but you have to click through to each page before you download and it would take me an eternity.

I just need 1000 .mp3's to run tests on, and I want to get them as easily as possible. Any ideas??

(The site should be for legal downloads... I'm on a school campus and they monitor illegal download activity)

Thanks!!

Try Jamendo (http://jamendo.com). The music there is open and free and legal to download.

Far as I know, OCRemix (http://ocremix.org)'s downloads are legal, and you can download in bulk if you use the torrents. It's all remakes of video game music, but if any random songs are fine, it could be an option.

what exactly is this software used for?

I was thinking It would probably be easier to make a script to copy 1 mp3, 1000th times... add random tags (I dunno how but I'm sure someone created a program to do this)

On a side note, I get a lot of free music from spinner.com (http://www.spinner.com/category/mp3-of-the-day/)

It's an audio fingerprinting/search program, so it's absolutely essential that the songs are different.

Kleptones (http://www.kleptones.com/pages/downloads.html) has some of the releases available as a single zip archive of mp3s.

there's a new online store that gives everything away for free, it has the same kind of stuff as the apple and amazon stores, but i can't remember the name now lol, i think it's a UK company. it makes all its money from ads.

you can download mp3s from these search engines -
http://mp3realm.org/
http://www.seeqpod.com/ipod/#_home
http://skreemr.com/
http://mixturtle.com/

you can do this google search too -
-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:"index of" +(mp3|ogg|wma|avi|wav) "artist name"

Might want to cut that to this:

-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:"index of" +mp3

whatever you use i think that's the best way to find lots of mp3s in one place, then you can wget the whole page.

I agree, Google is a very powerful tool. The only reason I edited the search you posted was that he said he only wanted MP3s and that he didn't really care about who made it. I've actually not run the search, but I imagine it would work well.

Google search is great but there is no way to know before hand if the music one finds that way is legal. You will find lots if music like that but most of it will be "copy-righted". Not that i care or that even believe in that kind of stuff but as the OP ask for legal downloads and as forum policy is not to give out "illegal" advice, I just thought I would point that out.

it works - but not always.

the google part works fine,
but some of the "index of ..." pages it returns are fake, in that they don't show real filenames (so you could just wget them) but show links with the underlying urls modified and with random numbers added, or redirecting to search engines. So a (direct) bulk download isn't always possible.

disclaimer
this is merely technical observation about wget and web index pages.

Didn't know you could do this. Pretty nice. Thanks.

Several good suggestions so far, but I'd like to add:

http://music.download.com/

I think they're legal (I hope they are at least).

The site you're probably thinking of is We7 (http://www.we7.com/)

Other than those already mentioned, you could also try:
Internet Archive (http://www.archive.org/index.php) and BestMp3Links (http://www.bestmp3links.com/)
