As already said, key codes are like the ones in Firefox:

New tab: Ctrl + t
New window: Ctrl + n

The other key codes are pretty much all shown in the menu. Here the more important one:

Switching between tabs: Ctrl + PageUp or Ctrl + PageDown

Changing view mode: Ctrl + 1 is Icon View, Ctrl + 2 is List View and Ctrl + 3 is the new Compact View

Is there a way to put a 'New Tab' button on the toolbar in Nautilus?

How do I make the default to open something in Nautilus to "open in a new tab"? I have it set for my default browser, is there a way to do it with Nautilus?

I hate having Nautilus already open, then when I click on one of my bookmarks under "Places" it opens in a new window, or even when I connect a pendrive.

There is a bug report that has been filed for the above request^ I was looking for the same thing. I guess we are just going to have to wait a while for it to be added.
