Will the update manager handle the new GNOME 2.24 release? If not is there an easy way to upgrade?

The gnome desktop environment is very tightly integrated into the Ubuntu-Desktop. It will be used in the upcoming 8.10 Intrepid Ibex, which is due October 30th. I strongly suggest waiting until Ibex is released, or else feel free to install the alpha version of 8.10, but you can expect a few bugs.

Sounds great. I'd imagine that upgrading to Intrepid will be easy ^_^

It depends on how much fiddling you have done. It certainly can go smoothly.

I installed gnome from ibex on my hardy system. Seemed to go okay. Do not see any great new features that I just had to have though.
