My computer is currently running 800x600 resolution. It is a pretty old computer but I know that I can handle a step higher in the resolution, the Ubuntu live cd sets it at a higher resolution even, for some reason when I go to knock it up a notch it won't give me the option, 800x600 is the highest. How can I get my resolution a step higher?

HI and have you tried using the command
gksu displayconfig-gtk and setting up there.

Once I run that program I am able to change my video card driver to one that allows me to change the resolution to something higher, the problem now is it doesn't appear to save the settings after a restart.
