I'm about to pass on my old desktop. To avoid releasing personal info, I want to uninstall Ubuntu completely (it's got Vista on it as well) I've been clearing all my data out of Vista, but for Ubuntu it would be much simpler to uninstall the system, and delete the partitions. How?

Get Gparted Live CD and erase the partition:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=115843&package_id=271779
Burn the iso to disk and boot from it.

Found Norton 'P. Magic' in XP, so removed the partition with that. But I should have uninstalled GRUB first shouldn't I. Now grub wants Ubuntu and can't find it, so stops with an error, and doesn't get me to XP either! So I'll have to reinstall XP - but I haven't got a disk . . . Be warned!
For me, this is now closed, with thanks.

All you need to do is recover XP's boot loader and not reinstall.
Super Grub disk can do it. http://supergrub.forjamari.linex.org/

Hooray for Super [Duper] Grub! One click and up comes Windows again. All is now cleared.
