In the past week I got a lenovo y510. I say this is because in 2.6.24-19, suspend to ram works great with this thing. But with every other kernel version I have tried, suspend doesn't work. So I'm basically asking that when ubuntu 8.10 comes out, how can I upgrade the entire OS but keep the kernel version I have now?

if it ain't broke, don't fix it. there's no real reason to upgrade, if everything's working fine. you do understand 8.04 is the lts version (long term support) right?

Yes I do realize that 8.04 is the LTS version, but I've been running the 8.10 alpha for a little while now on one of my Desktop machines, and it is just to awesome to not upgrade :)

You can download the Intrepid alpha6 LiveCD and give it a spin to see if it will work for you. Remember though that this is very pre-release software and other things may not work as expected. One thing to make sure of, is that you don't have an Intel e1000 nic as there is a problem with it and kernel 2.6.27.

Yeah I already tried the 8.10 LiveCD and suspend didn't work :(
So I have to stick with 2.6.24-19 kernel for now :(
