Sound on my up-to-date 8.04 installation will stop working out of no where. Most of the time it happens when I am watching a flash movie and click away from the page. I came across some rumblings of firefox holding on to the sound and not releasing control but I am not sure if its related. The bigger issue is that once that happens, I pretty much lose control of my desktop. I cant open up a gnome terminal and most of the other applications open begin to freeze. I have tried switching to tty6 and running 'sudo alsa reload', but back to tty7 gets me a blank screen and I have to hard boot (ctl-alt-backspace not responsive as well as any ttys). This has been happening every day! This is my laptop I use for work and I just cant have that happening every day. Any help would be immensely appreciated!
