It appears you can no longer configure autorun for CD/DVD/removable media, as the applet's name suggests. This was possible previously.

This is what I get now. It seems a tab or two is missing:

Two questions:
1. Why was this touched? Who should I bother about this, as I don't think it should have been.
2. Where are the autorun settings for 'normal' removable media like drives and optical media?

Edit: Ubuntu 8.04.1 AMD64

Indeed. Trying to do this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=500511
(DVD Autoplay with VLC)
I realized that there is not such tab on Removable Drivers & Media Prefences...

Only Cameras, PDAs, Printers and Scanners & Input Devices.

At least anyone knows a way to do it manually from a file which
holds those configurations ?

Found it! For some reason, this is handled by the file manager now.

Go to your home folder, then under the Edit menu go to Preferences.

Now look in the media tab.

It's all configurable, and there's even a magical "don't do ANYTHING EVER" checkbox!
