Windowmaker and synaptic

Logging in as me on text screen
<prompt> startx &

Then I get an xterm up and type
<prompt> xhost +
<prompt> synaptic

I get a warning that I can't edit, only view and I get to see the expected window.

If I type either
<prompt> sudo synaptic
or
<prompt> sudo bash
<prompt> synaptic

I get the standard windowmaker icon with 'hide/unhide/set icon/kill' but the expected window is no where to be seen.


Ideas on why the window to interact with synaptic is not visable ATM? It was working as expected for over 2 weeks.
