Hey there, complete beginner here. I really want to get Ubuntu, sound fun to try out and I want to get good at it.

I used a downloaded disk (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/iso) - Everything worked out perfectly. I'm installing by the boot screen - NOT IN XP.

Anyway. I put in the disk, get the Ubuntu boot menu, press install and that's when things went wrong according to this guide (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/installing). It doesn't even do the progress bar, it bounces back in forth.

I know it's a different version - but after the linux kernal loads, instead of loading up the installer I get a bunch of text (don't know what it means, sorry) then after ~10 minutes it all ends with something along the lines of "no user authentication". It repeats this about eight times then just stops. I waited 15 mins to make sure it wasn't something I didn't know about, but nothing happened. I'm on xp pro right now trying to figure it out. :\

Any help is appreciated. Again, total beginner here (haven't used it, trying to install I can!), so be gentle. :P

Many thanks.

I FIGURED IT OUT. Not enough hard drive space.

Any idea how I can get rid of my older xubuntu?Could you post your partitions. To do that, open the terminal and

paste or type in this code:

sudo fdisk -lSmall L. Then paste the results in a new post here.
