Hi,
A mate has been playing with the idea of installing Ubuntu on his desktop for over a year, and he finally asked me to help him with the transition last week. We installed Ubuntu Hardy (latest live CD) last Thu (18th Sep 2008) - all went well, so first thing we did was update the system. Packages were downloaded and then an error was returned and the system asked to be rebooted. After rebooting Ubuntu would not start. It was highly frustrating (we went through the process twice and wasted 3 or so hours). Does any one know if there was/is a problem with the updated repos for Hardy? Is it fixed. I think he has reinstalled XP now but could be persuaded to try Ubuntu again if sure it is going to work this time.
