Hello all,

I somehow lost my Ubuntu (Linux) admin password and I am wondering if there are any ways to get around it? I remember the first few letters of the password but I added a few characters to it couple of months ago and now I cannot remember it at all. I have a lot of files I would like to get back from my other machine and I am wondering if there is a way to somehow crack the admin password.

Thanks you very much in advance!

Isn't the admin password the same as your user password? In any case, this thread (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=86774&highlight=reset+sudo+password) may help you. It came up when I searched for "reset sudo password." Searching is good.

press e during grub and highlight the second line using the arrow keys, press e again - add single to the end of the line, press enter then b - you are now in single user mode and passwd username will help you out
