AOL's AIM for Linux is a joke, it hasn't been updated in years. Use Pidgin it supports almost all of the latest Windows version of AiM, Pidgin is already install on a new version of Ubuntu
Flash can be added easily from Add/Remove

Pidgin is in your synaptic package manager just go to search and type in....
As LowSky said go to applications->add/remove type in flash in search and it will give you the applications that are flash...click on them and click on apply...will load automatically into your software on your machine
