I've been using Ubuntu since Dapper (since Breezy on my laptop). One thing I think is a nice feature when it works, is the displayconf-gtk thing. However, recently it decieded I had a new monitor and reprobed my screen, and got it wrong. I am no novice to editing my xorg.conf, but I figured an average person wouldn't know/have the confidence to change the xorg.conf.
I was thinking for Intrepid there should be a "I have detected that you may have added/replaced a monitor, is this true?" dialog before it changes anything. Since a new user would get very frustrated by this. I also doubt this would be hard to add, unless it is a part of xorg or something and not just displayconf-gtk.
