A question for my fellow Ubuntu geeks!

I have been waiting for a neat ultra portable to become available with Ubuntu as my old nx7000 is just to big for what it does. I have been obsessing about the Dell mini 910 for some time, but Dell has really let me down.

1. I seem to get a lot less for my dollar compared to other ultra-portables. (Eee 900 comes with a LOT more for less)
2. They will not give me the Linux DVD software unless I buy their optical USB drive. (I already have one for crying out loud)
3. I was told it will ship by 10/28/08... a month!!!

I only have $400 to spend and I wanted something before November. I beg the people that ordered a Dell 910 OR the Eee 900-16G to tell me why I should get one over the other.

Not to mention I heard a rumor that system76 is working on their own ultra portable. Please comment if you see this system76 guys!

EDIT: My netbook requirements... $400 or less with Ubuntu preloaded or easily installed.

Much depends on price and availability locally.
The Eee900 has a lower spec CPU than the Dell and should really be much cheaper, a better comparison would be the Eee901 and the Dell.

In the UK by far the best value Netbook available to buy today is the Acer Aspire One.

Toshiba have a new one due soon. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/09/18/toshiba_unveils_netbook/

I reckon a 12" conventional laptop is a far better tool than a netbook.
