Hello, first time working with Linux. I'm having problems getting the demo thing wprking.

I downloaded the latest Ubuntu Version and burned it to a CD. After booting from it I select the 'Try Ubuntu without changing system' option (I'd like to test Ubuntu first) but after a few seconds the loading stops after printing:

BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu7) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter ‘help’ for a list of built-in commands.

(initramfs)

After doing some searching on Google, apparently that's not supposed to happen (I think).

A few people on other forums had the same issue and the most popular solution was substitute 'quiet splash' with 'all_generic_ide' in extra boot options. I tried that, and all seemed to be going well, until it stopped at this (http://img518.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ubuntuou3.jpg). (It appears to be the Ubuntu main menu printed twice along the top and black space underneath. Sorry about the blur.)

Can anyone help me because, to be honest, I have no idea what I'm doing.

Current OS: Windows XP Home
Hard Drive: 300gb
RAM: 2gb
Processor: AMD64 Athlon X2
