I have 6.06 installed on my computer, and I have the latest live CD of ubuntu. Whenever I boot up the 6.06 with the latest live CD it goes into Synaptic and tells me that I can update, but nothing happens.

Also, how would I be able to get additional programs without connecting the computer to the internet?

Hi, put the cd in and when it opens Synaptic click Settings then Repositories and the first tab add third party software you will see the button to add cdrom.
And you can add it.
To update with out the internet you can do the same thing with an cd.
