I've spent about 5 hours trying everything I've read in posts including removing ram, unplugging hardware one by one, writing the cd at low speeds, ran all the check with no errors. I'm currently running in live session and would love to have a full installation going. My system is:

amd athlon xp 2.8ghz
1 gig of ram
40 gig hd
ati radeon x700

any help would be greatly appreciated cause im stumped.

You could try the alternate text installer. It may help.

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

and tick the checkbox near the bottom for the alternate CD

Perhaps you should try to re-download the CD-image. Get it through bittorrent - you can do a hash check after you download it.

Well reporting back with no avail..... the text based version actually helped me narrow down my problem I think. I'm pretty sure my burner is botching the burn because im getting corrupt bootstrap files. I'm going to reinstall windows xp and try installing using wubi. I'll report back and let you guys know if it was a success.

Torrents are automatically hash checked, so no need for you to do it.
