So can I?
I need it to watch several formats in totem, and no repo I've seen carries it.

You are not called mxpxpod by any chance?

In that irc conversation there is apparantly a link to a repository. Not sure if it works though. It seems the reason it is not in debian is because it is not free software. It includes some copyrighted codecs, or something. I only skimmed it quickly.

EDIT
Oops. That is a PPC repository. It seems like the guy in that conversation didn't have any trouble compiling it him self though.

http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/src/gst-ffmpeg/

Maybe that will work?

I hope it works, I found it by this method:

search bar in firefox, I typed: gst-ffmpeg, then I hit enter.

Works a charm.

a) no I'm just Lovechild during IRC sessions

b) I wasn't looking for the tarball, I'm not dumb I can compile it myself, I was hoping that someone would pick it up and maintain a debian package for it since it's a really useful package for our totem-gstreamer.

Hey now -- didn't mean any harm -- my kids were pokin' at me -- I was just being sarcastic.

Sorry that link didn't help. Never fear - I'll probably be sarcastic again
